What Little Brother Does

Little Brother is a sailing race tracking app. It records your GPS position during races so your club can replay races, analyse performance, and display results. The app is designed to be used during organised club racing events.

What Data We Collect

• GPS location — your precise position, speed, bearing, and altitude, recorded once per second while tracking is active.
• Sailing identity — your sail number, helm name, crew name, boat name, boat type, and boat class, as provided during registration.
• Device information — your device platform (iOS/Android), OS version, and hardware model. A random device identifier is generated locally to associate tracking sessions.

How We Use Your Data

• To create race replays and leaderboards visible to your club.
• To detect sailing manoeuvres (tacks, gybes) for performance analysis.
• To display your boat’s position and trail on race replay maps.
• To calculate race results and statistics.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to sailing race tracking.

Where Your Data Goes

• On your device: GPS pings are stored locally in your browser’s secure storage (IndexedDB) during tracking. No cellular data is used while you are on the water.
• Cloud storage: When you stop tracking at the end of the day, your GPS data is uploaded to Supabase, a secure cloud database, via an encrypted connection.
• Club visibility: Your race data (position, trail, results) is visible to other members of your sailing club through the Little Brother replay and results pages.

Data Retention

Race data is retained indefinitely to allow clubs to maintain historical race archives. If you would like your data deleted, contact your club administrator or email us at the address below. GPS data on your device is deleted automatically after successful upload to the cloud.

Your Choices

• Don't track: You can sign on to a race without enabling GPS tracking by selecting “Sign on, Don't Track” during registration. Your sail number and name will still appear in the race roster.
• Stop tracking: You can stop GPS tracking at any time. Data recorded up to that point will be saved.
• Location permissions: You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device's settings. The app will not function without location access while tracking is active.

Background Location

Little Brother requests background location access so that GPS tracking continues when your phone screen is off or the phone is stowed in a drybag. This is essential for recording a complete race — without it, tracking would stop every time your screen locks. Background location is only active while a tracking session is in progress, and stops completely when you end your session.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. Your GPS data and sailing information are only visible within your sailing club through the Little Brother platform. We use Supabase as our cloud infrastructure provider; they process data on our behalf under a data processing agreement.

Children's Privacy

Little Brother is not directed at children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes through the app or website.
